Women Who Help Women: TMHC Joins Forces with Women in Distress

It’s always a great thing when women can directly (or indirectly) support other women in need. Last weekend, The Millionheiress Club got a chance to do just that.

As an organization, we volunteered at the Women in Distress Thrift Store in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

We teamed up to separate clothing into bins, hang clothes and collect items from donors.

Women in Distress is a long-running program that was created to help women who suffer from domestic violence. The thrift store we got an opportunity to work with, helps supply clothing to women and their children in an attempt to get them back on their feet after leaving an abusive relationship.

Although the stories behind a lot of abused women are sad, The Millionheiress Club turned the community service event into something eventful. We laughed, "Ooh-ed" and "Ahh-ed" at some of the items and got the chance to give back to our community.

My personal takeaway was a bit thought-provoking as well. As I sifted through bins of used items, some really old and some gently used, I thought, “There are people out there that really need help. Giving back feels really good and I’m glad I can be a part of something positive for my community.”

Shout out to The Millionheiress Club sisters and the board members that put this community service project all together. Collectively, we gave back 4 hours of the time we owe our community and it served a multitude of people for a very long time.
